Usual order

Navadni objed (Succisella inflexa) s čebelo na travniku.

Family: ščetičevke (Dipsacaceae)
Blooming period: July–September
Size: 30–100 cm
Habitat: moist meadows and by waters

Common objed (Succisella inflexa) is at first glance similar to meadow scabious. However, common objed has developed runners – lateral shoots at the base of the stem. The branched stem of this herbaceous perennial is leafed with lanceolate leaves. At the top of the shoots, late in summer a head-shaped inflorescence opens, which is composed of pale violet to pale pink flowers that are almost bare. In the time when the flowers wither, that is when the fruits develop, one can observe that the calyx is without black bristles. Then the inflorescence also lengthens and is in outline more or less oval.

Common objed grows on fresh, moderately nitrogen-rich soils in warm locations. It does not thrive in western Slovenia, but it is scattered across the rest of the country.
