White to pink flowers of medicinal valerian (Valeriana officinalis agg.) form inflorescences at the top of the stem. All leaves are pinnate. Some species of valerian are so similar that we have trouble distinguishing them. Therefore we group them into an aggregate, which is abbreviated agg. Medicinal valerian or baldrijan grows in sunny places throughout Slovenia. It is found on variably moist soils rich in nutrients.
The underground parts of the plant have a sedative effect, and have long been part of the household medicine cabinet.
