Flowering time: April–June

Habitat: shady forests
Spring torilnica (Omphalodes verna) has a strongly creeping rhizome hidden in the soil. In spring it pushes up a flowering stem with sky-blue flowers. Long-petioled, ovate basal leaves with heart-shaped bases are distinctly reticulate-veined. The entire plant is covered with protruding, stiff hairs. We call it srhkodlakava.
The species thrives in shady places on moist soils rich in humus. It grows throughout Slovenia, except in the northeastern part.
