Family: saxifrages (Saxifragaceae)
Flowering time: March–June
Size: 5–20 cm
Habitat: shady and moist forests and along streams
Delicate flowers of alternate-leaved chrysosplenium (Chrysosplenium alternifolium) consist of four yellow sepals, eight stamens and one pistil. The yellow bracts are concentrated just beneath the flowers and make them more conspicuous. The stem is triangular in cross-section. Leaves are rounded to heart-shaped. With stolons the saxifrage can spread into true carpets that cover moist ground along forest streams across almost all of Slovenia.
