Wood woundwort (Stachys sylvatica) is a plant with a distinctly unpleasant odor. Long-petioled ovate leaves with a heart-shaped base are arranged oppositely. Leaves on the stem at least 3 cm wide have a coarsely serrated margin of the leaf blade. From 12 to 15 mm long dark-crimson flowers are arranged in spindle-shaped inflorescences in the upper part of the protruding-hairy, four-angled stem. Two-lipped flowers have on the lower lip a pattern of purple spots on a whitish background. The calyx is 4 to 7 mm long, and the calyx teeth when mature are not pointed.

Wood woundwort is a forest species, common throughout Slovenia.
