Ivy-leaved grenkuljica

Bršljanasta grenkuljica (Glechoma hederacea) v času cvetenja od blizu.

Family: mints (Lamiaceae)
Blooming period: March–June
Size: stem up to 10–20 cm tall; side shoots up to 1.3 m long
Habitat: lawns, gardens, hedges, forest edges, among shrubs and ruderal habitats

We call the stem of creeping ground-ivy (Glechoma hederacea) creeping, as most of it lies on the ground, only at the end does it rise into the air. On the upright part of the stem, in the leaf axils of kidney- to heart-shaped leaves with a long stalk and a bluntly toothed edge, inflorescences with a few flowers develop. Two-lipped flowers on pedicels up to 2 mm long are pale violet. They are 1 to 2 cm long, and on their lower lip darker spots on a whitish background are usually clearly visible. After flowering, creeping ground-ivy sends long lateral shoots and thus spreads rapidly.

In Slovenia it is a widely distributed, common plant that thrives on moist, fertile soils.
