Many-flowered dead-nettle

Socvetje velecvetne mrtve koprive (Lamium orvala) od blizu.

Family: dead-nettles (Lamiaceae)
Flowering time: May–July
Size: 40–100 cm
Habitat: forests and forest edges, among shrubs

The name of the dead-nettle refers to the similarity of its leaves to nettle leaves, which, however, in species of the genus Lamium lack stinging hairs, and therefore do not sting. Large-flowered dead-nettle (Lamium orvala) has leaves wider than 4 cm with a serrated edge and a sparsely hairy, four-angled stem. The bracts have grown into a distinctive flower form, which we call a bilabiate flower. It is 3–4 cm long.

Large-flowered dead-nettle is a common plant of shady habitats; in Pomurje it is rare.
