Common germander (Teucrium chamaedrys) is a small shrub with opposite leaves.  The leaf margin of the short-petioled leaves is deeply serrated, the teeth are blunt. As is characteristic of this genus, its bilabiate flowers lack the upper lip. Flowers with a pink corolla are 10 to 15 mm long. The terminal flowers are longer or at least as long as their supporting leaves. The plant is somewhat hairy, but it is not covered with glandular hairs, so it is not sticky to the touch.

Because of the substances contained in common germander, it has been used to alleviate digestive problems and skin inflammations and to relieve cough; it is also known as a honey plant.

Common germander grows on dry, barren and well-drained basic soils in sunny places. With the exception of Pomurje, it is widespread and common throughout Slovenia.
