Family: dead-nettles (Lamiaceae)
Flowering time: June–August
Size: 5–30 cm
Habitat: dry meadows, rocky slopes
The branched stem of Prunella laciniata (split-leaved self-heal) is branched. At least along the margins it is densely covered with long white hairs. The basal leaves form a rosette, and at least the lower cauline leaves are pinnately lobed with two or three sharp, lanceolate lobes. The upper pair of cauline leaves is located just below the inflorescence. The yellowish-white fringe is 15 to 20 mm long.
Split-leaved self-heal grows on dry soils in bright, warm habitats. It is widespread throughout Slovenia, most common in the southwestern part, and in the mountainous region it is rare.
It often hybridizes with related species, usually (P. vulgaris) and the many-flowered self-heal (P. grandiflora), so at common localities we may encounter individuals with characteristics of the parent species.
