Warty spindle (Euonymus verrucosa) is a shrub with opposite, lanceolate leaves. The edge of the leaf blade is serrated with small blunt teeth. The rounded shoots of the warted spindle are green and studded with dark warts, which gave it its name. At the tips of the shoots, in the leaf axils, long-pedunculated inflorescences develop, consisting of several four-merous flowers. The round petals of brownish flowers are speckled with small red spots. It grows in partial shade on poor soils.
With the exception of Pomurje, it is found throughout Slovenia, but it is more common in the western and southwestern parts of the country.
