Wolf's strawberry (Paris quadrifolia) is the only representative of its family in Slovenia. This monocot has sometimes five, usually four acutely pointed ovate leaves arranged in a whorl. The leaves are distinctly net-veined, which is unusual for monocots. For them, leaf venation is parallel. At the top of the stem of the wolf's strawberry opens a four-stamen flower. The petals are folded downward. The outer four are lanceolate and green, the inner four are yellow-green and striped-lanceolate. From the black ovary protrude eight sharply elongated yellow anthers.
Its black-blue fruit is poisonous! The wolf's strawberry is widespread throughout Slovenia.
