Family: plantains (Plantaginaceae)
Flowering time: June–September
Size: 10–30 cm
Habitat: stony meadows, rocky outcrops, gravel
Gredljasti trpotec (Plantago holosteum) is a very recognizable plantain, as it has the narrowest leaves among all members of this genus living in Slovenia. Narrowly outlined leaves form a basal rosette, from which the flowering stems rise with dense, spike-like inflorescences. The dry, leathery floral mantle of small four-seeded flowers is inconspicuous, yet the yellow anthers stand out all the more.
Gredljasti trpotec is a plant of warm and exposed habitats and is limited to the warmer, southwestern part of Slovenia.
