Two-colored violet

Cvetoča dvocvetna vijolica (Viola biflora) od blizu.

Family: violets (Violaceae)
Flowering time: May–August
Size: 5–15 cm
Habitat: rocky crevices, damp and shady places

A low, unbranched stem of the two-flowered violet (Viola biflora) is bare. It is leafy with kidney-shaped leaves. The width of the leaf blade is greater than its length. The leaves are sparsely hairy. The stem is usually adorned with two bright yellow flowers, sometimes only one flower opens on the plant. A downward-facing bract is bordered with brown veins. The remaining four bracts are usually entirely yellow. They are turned upwards and folded back.

The two-flowered violet thrives best at higher elevations, so it is easiest to find in the alpine world of Slovenia. In shaded and damp ravines, it also grows in lowlands, but it is absent in the eastern, northeastern, and southwestern parts of Slovenia.
