Little green

Socvetje male zelenke (Pyrola minor) od blizu.

Family: zelenkovke (Pyrolaceae)
Flowering time: June–July
Size: 10–30 cm
Habitat: acidic forests, transitional bogs and acidic meadows

Small green (Pyrola minor) is a herbaceous perennial with a basal rosette of leaves. Its round basal leaves are 2 to 5 cm long. In a clustered inflorescence there are 5 to 20 nodding flowers that face in all directions. The white flowers with a lilac tint are globose, almost closed. The triangular sepals are adpressed to the petals. They are 3 to 5 mm long. The pistil's throat is straight and not expanded below the annulus. It is 1 to 2 mm long and the corona generally does not exceed it.

Small green grows on acidic, humus-rich fresh soils in cooler places. It is widespread in the hilly part of Slovenia, absent in most of Pomurje and in the central and eastern parts of our country.
