Cerknica Lake is a wildlife paradise. Here more than 300 species of birds have been observed – half of all European species; here 45 species of mammals live – half of all Slovenian species; here you can find 125 species of diurnal butterflies – about a third of all European species; there are also 15 species of amphibians breeding here – almost a quarter of all European species. And carnivorous plants, orchids, amphibious plants, that thrive in water as well as on the meadow... The biodiversity of this area is truly exceptional!
