From July 17 to 26, a student research camp for biologists is taking place in the mystical land of Lake Cerknica. Since we’d like to share our enthusiasm for exploring nature with you, we invite you to our open-house research days, where you’ll be able to get a glimpse into the work of young researchers, learn about their research methods, and discover the extraordinary natural heritage of our very special piece of the world.
Join us on Friday, July 24, at 17:00 in the parking lot in front of the Visitor Center Lake Cerknica at Dolenje Jezero.
Amphibians are among the most endangered groups of animals, yet they are an indispensable part of healthy wetlands.
During this field workshop, we’ll take a peek into the world of herpetology—the science that studies amphibians and reptiles. Together with researchers, we’ll search for amphibians in their natural habitat, learn about their characteristics, and discover how field research on them is conducted.
You’ll practice using dichotomous identification keys, learn how to handle amphibians properly and safely, and discover how to identify individual species. You’ll also learn about the role amphibians play in the ecosystem and why protecting them is important for maintaining the natural balance.
