From July 17 to 26, a student research camp for biologists is taking place in the mystical land of Lake Cerknica. Since we’d like to share our enthusiasm for exploring nature with you, we invite you to our open-house research days, where you’ll be able to get a glimpse into the work of young researchers, learn about their research methods, and discover the extraordinary natural heritage of our very special piece of the world.
Join us on Friday, June 17, at 21:00 in front of the Notranjski Odred Cerknica Elementary School.
When darkness falls and most of nature quiets down, a completely different world awakens. Bats leave their hiding places and set out to hunt, their ultrasonic calls remaining hidden from our ears.
On this evening exploration, we’ll discover the lives of these extraordinary nocturnal fliers together. Using an ultrasonic detector, we’ll convert their inaudible calls into sounds we can hear, allowing us to identify which species live in our area.
As we walk through the town, we’ll learn about the biology and ecology of bats, their incredible adaptations for navigating in the dark, and their indispensable role in nature. You’ll find out how researchers monitor their populations and why bats are important indicators of a healthy environment.
