From July 17 to 26, a student research camp for biologists is taking place in the mystical land of Lake Cerknica. Since we’d like to share our enthusiasm for exploring nature with you, we invite you to our open-house research days, where you’ll be able to get a glimpse into the work of young researchers, learn about their research methods, and discover the extraordinary natural heritage of our very special piece of the world.
Join us on Sunday, July 19, at 12:00 in the parking lot in front of the Visitor Center Lake Cerknica at Dolenje Jezero.
Dragonflies are among the most skilled fliers in the animal kingdom. With their vibrant colors and acrobatic flight, they delight visitors to wetlands, while also serving as important indicators of healthy aquatic ecosystems.
During this field workshop, we’ll explore their remarkable life cycle—from the larva living beneath the water’s surface to the adult dragonfly that reigns in the air. You’ll learn many interesting facts about their way of life, hunting habits, and incredible flying abilities.
Together, we’ll search for different species of dragonflies, learn to identify some of the most common ones, and, if you’d like, try catching them ourselves with a butterfly net. Along the way, we’ll discover why dragonflies are important to nature, what threatens their habitats, and how we can help conserve them.
Participation is at your own risk.
