From July 17 to 26, a student research camp for biologists is taking place in the mystical land of Lake Cerknica. Since we’d like to share our enthusiasm for exploring nature with you, we invite you to our open-house research days, where you’ll be able to get a glimpse into the work of young researchers, learn about their research methods, and discover the extraordinary natural heritage of our very special piece of the world.
Join us on Tuesday, June 21, at 9:00 in Pretržje on Lake Cerknica (near the beehives).
How many different plant species can we find on a single walk? You’ll be surprised by how diverse the plant world is in the mystical land of Lake Cerknica.
Together with researchers, we’ll head out into the field to learn how botanists systematically catalog the flora. Depending on weather conditions, we’ll explore either the forest in the Gorica area or the open grasslands. Along the way, we’ll discover various plant habitats and are expected to observe at least 50 different plant species.
You’ll also learn how botanists conduct their fieldwork, what they need to pay special attention to when cataloging plants, and why accurate data on flora are crucial for understanding and conserving nature.
The field trip is not physically demanding and will take place in all weather conditions.
