From July 17 to 26, a student research camp for biologists is taking place in the mystical land of Lake Cerknica. Since we’d like to share our enthusiasm for exploring nature with you, we invite you to our open-house research days, where you’ll be able to get a glimpse into the work of young researchers, learn about their research methods, and discover the extraordinary natural heritage of our very special piece of the world.
Join us on Thursday, June 23, at 9:30 in the parking lot in front of the Visitor Center Lake Cerknica at Dolenje Jezero.
Did you know that butterflies tell us a lot about the state of nature? Their diversity reflects healthy and well-preserved meadows, making them an indispensable part of our ecosystems.
During the workshop, we’ll head out to the meadows with the researchers to learn how butterfly research is conducted. You’ll try your hand at catching butterflies with a butterfly net, learn how researchers safely observe and identify them, and learn to use identification keys to recognize individual species.
Along the way, we’ll explore the diversity of butterflies, their life cycle, adaptations, and the role they play in nature. You’ll also learn why butterflies are important indicators of environmental health and how monitoring their populations can help us better understand and protect nature.
