From July 17 to 26, a student research camp for biologists is taking place in the mystical land of Lake Cerknica. Since we’d like to share our enthusiasm for exploring nature with you, we invite you to our open-house research days, where you’ll be able to get a glimpse into the work of young researchers, learn about their research methods, and discover the extraordinary natural heritage of our very special piece of the world.
Join us on Saturday, July 25, at 9:00 behind the Cerknica Bowling Alley (the starting point for the hike to Slivnica).
The forest hides much more than meets the eye. Among the moss, fallen leaves, and undergrowth, fungi of all shapes, colors, and sizes grow.
In this field workshop, we’ll set out together to explore fungi. We’ll learn about the species that thrive in the summer, discover which characteristics to look for when identifying them, and find out how to tell them apart. You’ll also learn where and when the best opportunities for successful mushroom hunting are, and how researchers search for and identify different species.
Nature always has a surprise or two in store. Along the way, we’ll observe other interesting plants and animals we encounter in the field. If mushrooms are scarce due to heat and drought, we’ll expand our exploration to include other interesting forest inhabitants, so the walk will be engaging regardless of the conditions.
