From July 17 to 26, a student research camp for biologists is taking place in the mystical land of Lake Cerknica. Since we’d like to share our enthusiasm for exploring nature with you, we invite you to our open-house research days, where you’ll be able to get a glimpse into the work of young researchers, learn about their research methods, and discover the extraordinary natural heritage of our very special piece of the world.
Join us on Friday, July 24, at 9:00 in the parking lot in front of the Visitor Center Lake Cerknica at Dolenje Jezero.
Spiders are among nature’s most diverse and, at the same time, most misunderstood inhabitants. Although we often overlook them or even avoid them, they play an important role in maintaining the natural balance.
During this field workshop, we’ll learn about the most common groups of spiders living around Lake Cerknica and discover how researchers search for, sample, and identify them. We’ll try out some basic sampling methods used by arachnologists in the field and learn how these methods can help us study spider diversity in various habitats.
Along the way, we’ll learn about their fascinating adaptations, hunting techniques, life habits, and important role in the ecosystem.
