In 2025, we continued to carry out nature conservation supervision in Notranjska Park, with a special focus on the LIFE Tršca project area. The monitoring focused on visitor numbers, the detection of disturbances, and the prevention of activities that negatively impact vulnerable habitats and endangered species on this very special piece of the world.

To support the supervision, we used hunting cameras and an online application for recording disturbances. The application enables systematic documentation through 18 input fields and proved to be an effective tool, particularly for recording illegal dumping sites, driving in the natural environment, boating during the bird nesting season, wild camping, littering, and uncontrolled dog walking.

Monitoring was carried out throughout the year and, in addition to regular daily field inspections, also included several night inspections, especially on weekends during the spring, summer, and autumn. We documented violations and inappropriate practices and, where necessary, issued friendly verbal or written warnings to individuals.

Since May 2025, we have also been monitoring the automatic traffic counters. Currently, three counters are installed for single-track and two-track vehicles, as well as four counters for counting pedestrians. These counters make an important contribution to detecting increased visitor pressure on specific areas of the intermittent lake.

The data collected by the automatic counters are also published on the Notranjska Park website, on the RECOMMENDATIONS subpage, where they help visitors plan their visit more easily. Based on the most recent measurements, we present current visitor levels at natural attractions, enabling visitors to better choose the time and location of their visit. The data are updated approximately every three hours and show the level of visitation at individual natural attractions during the most recent monitoring period. The data are for informational purposes only and may change throughout the day.

By publishing this information, we aim to help visitors experience the park at a more pleasant and calmer pace, while at the same time contributing to the conservation of these natural wonders for future generations.

In 2025, four nature conservation supervisors and six volunteer supervisors were active in the Notranjska Park area. Together with visitors, local residents, and other stakeholders, they help ensure that this special piece of the world remains a safe, tidy, and pleasant place for everyone—both for nature and for the people who visit and live there.

We are also observing a positive shift among residents and visitors of the mystical land of Lake Cerknica. More and more people are becoming aware of the importance of nature conservation, staying on marked trails, taking their waste with them, and respecting the peace and the local community. This responsible attitude contributes significantly to maintaining the balance of nature and shows that, through shared respect for nature, we can create a pleasant experience for everyone.

With LIFE TRŠCA we will improve the conservation status of the intermittent Lake Cerknica.

A triptych of macro photographs of wild cuckoos. The left photograph shows a vibrant pink cuckoo standing upright in the middle of a softly blurred green-blue grassy landscape. The middle photograph is a close-up of delicate pink hybrid flowers, showing the tiny patterns on the petals and curled flower buds, with a uniform green and pastel background. The photo on the right shows a slimmer, slightly darker pink cuckoo flower surrounded by delicate reflections of light and warm green bokeh, creating a feeling of morning freshness.
