In 2007 the Nature Conservation Atlas was established. It is a tool that helps ZRSVN staff with planning, analyses and decision-making. The Nature Conservation Atlas contains data that enable successful implementation of nature conservation tasks and support strategic decisions in the field of nature protection.

In Slovenia, a new milestone is opening in the field of land management for nature conservation purposes. As part of the LIFE Tršca project, a new online database is being created that will enable conservationists to work more easily with data on lands they manage. The database will enable simple collection, viewing, and use of data. This will make it easier for conservationists to monitor the state of lands, plan measures, and ensure long-term care for nature.

The development of the database is led by ZRSVN in collaboration with partner Notranjska Park and the Society for the Observation and Study of Birds of Slovenia. Both organizations bring rich fieldwork experience and extensive sample data, which will significantly contribute to the successful design and use of the database. The database will be available to all parks and organizations involved in nature conservation. With its help, users will be able to view all lands owned or managed by a protected area with a few mouse clicks and plan conservation measures on them.

The new database will be connected to the Narcis information system, which already brings together various nature conservation data. Thus, more information will be available in one place, facilitating collaboration between organizations and nature conservation in Slovenia. The Narcis information system, developed within the LIFE Narcis project, is the central national hub for nature conservation data. It links various databases and tools, including the Nature Conservation Atlas, and enables data exchange between organizations and the wider public. Its modern tools and interactive maps assist users in finding and analyzing data. The Narcis system currently includes data from eight partner organizations, enabling a comprehensive view of data on species, habitats and natural processes. The LIFE Narcis project will end at the end of 2024, but its achievements and results will live on. The information system is already available to the wider public and will continue to play an important role in nature conservation and monitoring biodiversity.

Although information systems are an important tool for effective work in nature protection, we must not forget that they are only a support. It is crucial that we respect nature, treat it responsibly and stay connected with its essence. True success in protecting nature rests on our care, responsibility and commitment.

The implementation of extensive nature conservation projects exceeds the financial capacity of the local community, therefore Notranjska Park regularly applies for projects with the possibility of co-financing by the European Union.
