A person wearing a dark jacket with a nature conservation badge on the sleeve stands at a viewpoint looking towards a river winding through a wooded valley. The trees in the foreground are bare, while in the background an autumn landscape stretches out in shades of green and brown.

In Notranjska Park, nature conservation supervision has been carried out since the LIFE Stržen project, and it has now been expanded under the LIFE TRŠCA project. A ranger is an authorized official who, under the Nature Conservation Act (ZON), is responsible for protecting nature, monitoring human activities in the environment, and raising awareness among visitors about the importance of nature conservation.

Although visitors and local residents are more and more responsible in their behavior in nature, there are still actions on the ground that can negatively affect natural values and the rich biodiversity. The most common situations we encounter are:

  • illegal waste dumping,
  • driving motor vehicles off marked paths,
  • parking motor vehicles in natural areas,
  • wild camping,
  • unauthorized boating during bird nesting season,
  • walking dogs without supervision.

To further protect nature effectively while ensuring visitors have a pleasant experience, we have strengthened nature conservation supervision in Notranjska Park. In September, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Spatial Planning organized professional training covering key areas of nature conservation: from the basics of nature protection, biodiversity, and the safeguarding of natural values to knowledge of protected areas, monitoring procedures, and cooperation with law enforcement authorities.

The training was successfully completed by colleagues from the LIFE TRŠCA project and the LIFE OrnamentalIAS project, Today, Notranjska Park can proudly count four conservation rangers and six volunteer rangers, who together ensure that our very special piece of the world remains safe, well-maintained, and enjoyable for everyone – for nature, local residents, and visitors.

His jacket bears the inscription 'Nature Conservation Supervisor – Notranjski Park'. In the background lies the dry lake basin with green and brown meadows, surrounded by wooded hills and a cloudy sky.

We encourage all visitors of the mystical land of Lake Cerknica to act respectfully towards nature, local residents, and private property. Always leave vehicles in designated parking areas and stay on roads and marked paths. Camp only in permitted areas, take your waste with you, and do not light fires in nature. Observe animals without disturbing them, keep dogs on a leash, and do not pick flowers. Before heading into nature, you can check current conditions at the Visitor Center to ensure a safe and enjoyable visit for everyone.

If you notice any inappropriate or harmful behavior in nature, please inform us at +386 1 709 06 36 or info@notranjski-park.si.

Thank you for helping us protect the nature.
