LIFE TRŠCA project partners, met at the regular coordination meeting on Monday, April 7th (University of Ljubljana - Biotechnical Faculty, Slovenia's Society for the Observation and Study of Birds, Institute for Nature Conservation of the Republic of Slovenia, Scientific Research Centre of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts and Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Food), where we reviewed the project's previous achievements, planned activities for the upcoming reporting period, and openly discussed the challenges we face in implementing the project.
Among the more notable achievements, we highlighted numerous documents and analyses that will significantly aid the project's further development, the successful fieldwork that is already behind us, and other concrete actions that, after a year and a half of the project's duration, have begun to develop more actively. In the coming period we will undertake further fieldwork, analysis of the collected data, and even closer cooperation with the professional and local public.
While implementing the project, we also face challenges such as adjusting the water level at Lake Cerknica, the accessibility of certain terrains, and coordinating activities among the various partners. Nevertheless, we remain committed to the common goal: the long-term preservation and improvement of the status of sedge vegetation in the area of the intermittently drying Lake Cerknica .

What is the LIFE TRŠCA project?
The LIFE TRŠCA project is aimed at improving the conservation status of the intermittently drying Lake Cerknica – one of the most unique natural habitats in Europe. We will mainly focus on sedges, which provide habitat for many threatened species of birds, amphibians, and other organisms, while at the same time significantly influencing water quality and the preservation of biodiversity.
With various measures, such as monitoring the vitality of the sedges, limiting overgrowth, and raising public awareness, the project contributes to the sustainable management of this exceptional ecosystem. The project partners come from diverse professional institutions, and together we create a synergy of knowledge, experience, and commitment.
