After many years of efforts, a new outdoor classroom - Heljvi stands in Pretržje, area at Lake Cerknica. This space, which has a deep meaning for the local community, will significantly contribute to raising awareness about the natural and cultural heritage of our very special piece of the world.
Once a fishing hut owned by the Cerknica Fishermen Association stood here, where locals gathered and kept the tradition alive. Notranjski Park, in cooperation with the Municipality of Cerknica, has established the outdoor classroom in the hope of reviving this space. The building was co-financed by the European Union from the European Regional Development Fund and the Republic of Slovenia.
In the past, this place was a popular gathering spot for locals, where unforgettable stories were woven to the sounds of live music. Fishermen here prepared their catch, and guests together enjoyed delicious dishes, company, dancing, and even bowling. This spirit of genuine gathering and connectedness is now returning – in a new form and with a different purpose.

Revived tradition in a modern guise
Like all the more significant points around Lake Cerknica, Hlejvi also carry an old agrarian name that preserves the history of this area. Once there were stables for livestock here, today it is a space for learning, gathering and creating new memories.
Notranjski park will use the outdoor classroom for educational activities, and the space will also be available to local associations, creators and everyone who wishes to organize workshops, meetings or simply enjoy the peace of pristine nature. Visitors will be able to find a corner for rest here and admire the beauties of the mystical Lake Cerknica during a walk along the Drvošec thematic trail.
