Dear teachers and pupils,
Join us in exploring Slovenia’s nature parks in the 2026/27 school year! This year’s quiz, BECOME A GUARDIAN OF NATURE, introduces pupils to park rangers and the work they do to protect nature.
Slovenia’s nature parks and nature reserves protect a rich variety of plants, animals and habitats. Park rangers play a key role in caring for these protected areas. But who are they, how can you recognise them, and what does their work involve?
There is much more to being a park ranger than making sure people follow the rules. Rangers talk to visitors and local communities, answer questions and help people appreciate what makes nature special and why it needs our care. They explain why protecting wildlife and habitats matters, and how our own lives are connected to the natural world.
Through fun and educational quiz questions and practical activities, pupils will discover what park rangers do, learn how to enjoy the outdoors responsibly and explore ways to care for nature. They will also find out how to become guardians of nature themselves – at school, at home, in a park or out exploring.
The quiz is conducted in Slovenian and runs in three rounds from November 2026 to April 2027. It is designed mainly for pupils in the fifth and sixth years of primary school, but teachers are welcome to involve younger or older pupils if they feel the activities are suitable. Pupils work in teams of three to five, with guidance from a teacher.
