We hosted 12,440 visitors, who generated 27,441 overnight stays in 2024 in Notranjska Park. The average length of stay in the Municipality of Cerknica was 2.21 nights. Despite a 1% growth in arrivals, we recorded about 10% fewer overnight stays compared to 2023.

The majority of visitors come from Italy, Germany and France, followed by visitors from Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, and Spain. 77% of our visitors are foreign, and the longest-staying visitors are from the Netherlands, France, Germany, Poland and Spain, who on average stayed two to three nights.

Variety of offerings for an even better experience

In the peak season of 2024 there were 44 accommodation providers with a total of 454 permanent beds, and five providers also enabled camping and PZA parking for motorhomes. The Visitor Center Lake Cerknica was a hub of key information, as we informed more than 14,000 visitors there about experiences, attractions, culinary offerings and accommodations.

Natural and cultural attractions attracted numerous visitors. Krizna Cave, Cerknica Lake Museum and the interactive exhibit at the Visitor Center collectively drew 35,000 guests who paid an admission fee.

Water experiences for an in-depth exploration of the park

In collaboration with local guides and providers, we carried out 71 guided experiences that attracted 1.038 visitors. Guests could discover the mystical land of Lake Cerknica through bird watching, bear watching, themed weekends, and various activities such as boating, cycling, hiking, and riding hay carriage -  lojtrnik. Such experiences allow an escape from the fast-paced world and a deeper understanding of nature in the heart of karst landscapes.

Challenges and opportunities for the 2025 season

In the coming year, the main emphasis will be on connecting accommodation providers and services to keep guests in the Notranjska region longer. It will be important to improve the quality of accompanying services, such as breakfast offerings, directing toward water-based experiences, bike and canoe rentals, and expansion of the culinary offerings.

Notranjski Park, together with local providers, is also shaping new experiences that will be adapted to climate change. More and more guests are choosing to visit Notranjska because of more pleasant temperatures compared with hot coastal destinations. A holiday in a green, less crowded environment, enriched with high-quality experiences, is becoming an increasingly popular choice for active travelers and nature lovers.
