Natural Science Days for the 2nd Triad of Primary School

Notranjska Park organizes science days for groups of primary school students from the 4th to the 6th grade.

The program interweaves a visit to the Visitor Center Lake Cerknica and the exploration of karst phenomena on and around the Drvošec thematic trails, with the help of experiential workshops, exploring habitats, and the use of various didactic aids: binoculars, telescopes, shells, identification keys, catch nets and worksheets. 

Natural science days for students of the 2nd cycle of primary school include familiarization with the Notranjska Park and cover the following curriculum topics: 

  • Knowledge of determining the principal directions of the sky using the sun, shadows, and a compass,
  • familiarisation with natural characteristics of the local landscape (relief, waters, soil, climate, rocks, soils, ores),
  • developing a positive attitude toward tradition; understanding the importance of preserving tradition (customs and habits, cultural monuments, etc.),
  • learning about the beauty and geographic diversity of Slovenia as part of the excursion and fieldwork,
  • understanding the values and uniqueness of the Slovenian landscape,
  • developing love and respect for Slovenian natural and cultural heritage and belonging to the Slovenian state,
  • explaining the differences between the concepts of cultural and natural heritage,
  • description of examples of natural and cultural heritage.
