Kunaver heritage

Project description

The Kunaver Heritage project revives the legacy of Pavel Kunaver, one of the most important Slovenian naturalists, educators and pioneers of nature conservation in Slovenia.

The project will see the publication of selected journal entries by Pavel Kunaver for the first time. The Kunaver Trail from Rakek to Rakov Škocjan will be upgraded, his memorial room in the Jezerski hram Museum will be modernized, and new interpretation programs for visitors will be developed.

The project contributes to the preservation of the intangible heritage of Notranjska, strengthening local identity and raising awareness of the importance of nature conservation.

The purpose of the project

The purpose of the project is to preserve and present the heritage of Pavel Kunaver and bring it closer to modern visitors.

The project connects his records, nature conservation views and life's work with today's understanding of the natural and cultural heritage of Notranjska.

Project objectives

• publication of selected journal entries by Pavel Kunaver,
• digitalization and upgrading of the memorial room in the Jezerski hram Museum,
• upgrading the Kunaver Trail with new interpretive content,
• development of the "Lake Cerknica and Pavel Kunaver" guided tour program,
• inclusion of the Kunaver Trail in the Notranjska Park tourist offer,
• training of tourist guides,
• promotion of the heritage of Pavel Kunaver and the importance of nature conservation.

Main activities of the project

• review, selection and arrangement of journal entries of Pavel Kunaver,
• preparation, design and publication of a book,
• upgrading the contents of the Kunaver Trail,
• production of a leaflet and online content,
• digitalization of the memorial room in the Jezerski hram Museum,
• preparation of a new interpretation program for visitors,
• filming of two films with the testimony of Prof. Dr. Jurij Kunaver,
• issuance of commemorative postcards and stamps,
• implementation of training courses for tourist guides,
• promotion of project activities and results.

Expected project results

• a book of journal entries by Pavel Kunaver,
• digitalized and content-upgraded memorial room,
• new guide program "Lake Cerknica and Pavel Kunaver",
• two films with personal testimony by Prof. Dr. Jurij Kunaver,
• commemorative postcards and a commemorative stamp issued,
• upgraded Kunaver Trail,
• production of a brochure and online content,
• conducted training for tourist guides,
• inclusion of Kunaver Trail in the regular tourist offer of Notranjska Park,
• greater recognition of Pavel Kunaver's heritage and the importance of nature conservation.
