The investment is co-financed by the Republic of Slovenia and the European Union from the European Regional Development Fund.
The project aims to establish a regional cinema with an upgrade and technical modernization of the hall at the Cultural center Cerknica.
The main objective of the Regional cinema operation is to prevent the cinema from ceasing operations by upgrading to digital film playback equipment and to once again provide residents throughout the region with access to a high-quality service that was once available. The project, in addition to the technical renovation, also includes educational and awareness-raising activities, aimed primarily at younger audiences – through co-creation of film content, screenings, and accompanying discussions with experts and creators.
The purchase of a digital cinema projector (DCP) and accompanying equipment will enable more frequent screenings of current films. Collaboration among project partners also opens possibilities for long-term linking of cultural and educational institutions in the region, with the aim of popularizing quality film and the development of film culture.
With the Regional cinema project, at the Cultural center Cerknica they strive to establish a diverse, regular and up-to-date film program and to re-establish themselves as a regional cinema that has successfully operated for more than 40 years in the premises of the former Sokol House. With technical modernization and a more frequent program, they aim to attract local audiences and film enthusiasts who currently attend cinemas outside the region.
With the start of the 2021/2022 season, therefore, an expansion of the film program and more film screenings with the latest technological equipment are expected.
