The common clouded yellow (Colias croceus) has the upperside of the wings orange-yellow in color. Along the outer edge of the upperside of the forewings there is a broad black band, which in males is interrupted by yellow veins, in females by yellow spots. In the middle of the forewings there is a black spot, in the middle of the hindwings a pale spot in the shape of the number eight. There is also a color form of this species in which females have the upperside pale yellow to greenish-white color.
The common clouded yellow is a fast flier that migrates over long distances. In our country it can be found in a variety of habitats from the sea to high mountain pastures, but it is more common on warm spots rich with flowering plants.
