Pearl-bordered fritillary (Hesperia comma) is a stocky butterfly with a golden-brown body and wings. The upperside of the forewings in males is reddish-orange with a distinct, dark brown, oblique line (scent-hair band) in the middle and a broad dirty brown margin, which in the upper corner of the wings is speckled with a pair of dark yellow angular spots. Its hindwings are on the upperside of a color similar to the forewings, only a broad brown margin runs around the entire wing, and there are more yellow angular spots scattered across the surface of the wing. The female is on top considerably more brown, and her wings are adorned with a larger number of yellow angular spots, which are also larger than the male's. During resting or feeding we will easily distinguish the Pearl-bordered fritillary from other fritillaries, as the golden-brown undersides of the wings with a hint of olive color are marked by prominent silver-white spots of irregular shape.

The Pearl-bordered fritillary lives in open, richly flowering meadows. In our country it is a widely distributed species that occurs from the sea to the high mountains.
