The red skipper (Spialia sertorius) is, like other species in the family of skippers, a small butterfly. It prefers warmer areas, where it flies over blooming dry meadows, shrubby areas, and forest clearings. It can be found from the sea to mountainous grassy slopes.

The upper side of its wings is dark brown with a reddish tint and speckled with small white spots, and is thus very similar to the slezovčkom, which belong to the same family. When the red skipper rests with its wings folded, it is clearly distinguished from other species. The underside of its hindwings is brick-red in color. This red coloration is interrupted by a few larger white spots.

The red skipper is listed on Slovenia's Red List of endangered butterflies. Its habitat is mainly being overgrown by forest due to the abandonment of mowing, and thus shrinking.
