The green spider (Micrommata virescens) lives in forest clearings, at the edges of forests, along forest paths and in scrub. If it is warm enough we will notice it for the first time already early in spring, and then we will encounter this species all the way until autumn. It is most often found in sunny places, as the species loves warmth.

The green spider most enjoys hunting from ambush. It waits motionless in low vegetation, then grabs prey that comes close enough with its legs.

The female is entirely green and thus easily camouflages on the plant. Its cephalothorax and legs are grass-green in color, the oval abdomen is light green with a yellow-bordered darker stripe running along the middle. The female's body is 10 to 15 mm long. Adult males have a cephalothorax and legs colored dark green, and the yellow abdomen is adorned with scarlet longitudinal stripes. The male's body is 7 to 10 mm long. Nymphs that have not yet reached sexual maturity are straw-colored and usually speckled with red spots; along the abdomen they have two yellow lines. For individuals of both sexes and also for juvenile individuals of the green spider, a belt of white hairs around the black eyes is characteristic.
