For water mint (Mentha aquatica) the pink flowers are characteristic, arranged in a head-like inflorescence. Distinctly petiolate leaves are covered with appressed hairs, and the stem is prominently hairy. The whole plant has a strong menthol scent.

The species is characteristic of wet habitats. Except in the Alps, it is found throughout Slovenia.

Fresh or dried leaves of water mint can be used as a herb or for making tea.
