The flowers of the dark purplish columbine (Aquilegia atrata) are dark claret to brown-violet in color. A cluster of yellow anthers noticeably protrudes from the threadlike flower. The tips of the anthers extend beyond the inner petals by at least 5 mm. The petals are about 2 cm long. The upper parts of the spurs are curved. It is a poisonous plant that occurs in our country from the lowlands to the scrub belt. It can be found mainly in Notranjska and in the Alpine region of Slovenia.
