The basal leaves of the meadow windflower (Anemone ranunculoides) are not yet developed at flowering time, on the stem there are in a whorl three short-petioled, three-lobed leaves. From their leaf stalks emerge up to two bright yellow flowers with five petals and numerous stamens and pistils. Its petals are hairy on the outer surface. It thrives in shady habitats, especially in forests, on moderately fertile and humus-rich soils throughout Slovenia. The meadow windflower produces substances that make it poisonous!
