Common buttercup (Ranunculus ficaria) is distinguished from other terrestrial buttercups that grow here by having 8–13 glossy, bright yellow petals and only 3 sepals, whereas other buttercups typically have five-petaled flowers. Its leaves are heart-shaped. It is common in moist habitats throughout Slovenia, where it is found flowering already early in spring. It is a poisonous plant.
