Clematis species growing in Slovenia are woody climbers. The exceptions are the upright and entire-leaved clematis (Clematis integrifolia), both of which have upright, leafless stems. The entire-leaved clematis is smaller, has ovate to lanceolate leaves that are never divided, and purple flowers. The flowers are solitary, rarely in pairs or threes. In Slovenia it is quite a rare species of moist soils, with the most localities in Notranjska.
