In the second half of May, as part of the NRP Academy project, we organised a special culinary workshop that brought together culinary heritage, intergenerational cooperation, and the transfer of knowledge from one generation to the next. The workshop united students from the media club of the Hero Janez Hribar Primary School in Stari trg pri Ložu and members of the Rural Women and Girls Association Ostrnice. Together, they explored the preparation of dishes that once regularly appeared on traditional Notranjska family tables.

Under the skilful guidance of the association members, participants prepared kavra (kohlrabi) and cottage cheese štruklji. The students were not merely observers; they actively participated in every stage of the process, from preparing the ingredients to shaping the štruklji. Along the way, they learned about the culinary heritage of the region and the importance of preserving knowledge and recipes that have been passed down through generations.

The workshop formed part of the development of a new content series, From the Home Kitchen, which is being created within the Taste Notranjska programme. The series will present traditional Notranjska recipes, culinary heritage, and the stories of people who continue to preserve this knowledge today. The aim of the initiative is to ensure that this valuable heritage is not lost, but instead passed on to younger generations in a contemporary and engaging way.

The workshop was filmed and photographed by an external contractor, giving the students insight into the process of creating modern video and photographic content. Based on the workshop, a series of short videos and photographic materials was produced and will be presented as part of Taste Notranjska.

The workshop once again demonstrated the value of cooperation between generations. Older participants were delighted to share their knowledge and experience, while the younger generation embraced it with curiosity and enthusiasm, helping to preserve an important part of Notranjska culinary heritage for future generations.

The investment is co-financed by the Republic of Slovenia and the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund.
