Thrushes (Turdidae) are a diverse and fairly large family of small to medium-sized songbirds. The complex songs of thrushes certainly belong among the most beautiful in the avian world. Among thrushes we also include such singing virtuosi as slavec, kos and carar, who with their melodies delight even the most demanding listener. The smaller members of this family are mainly insectivores and hunt small insects and other invertebrates, while the larger thrushes, in addition to large invertebrates, also enjoy fruit.
Thrushes differ from one another not only in shape, color, and song. Over time they have adapted to very different living environments, so some of them can be found in meadows, others in forests, in lowlands or high in the mountains, and a few also live in human settlements.
