Toadflaxes (Fumariaceae) are a family with around 450 species, distributed mainly in the temperate zone of the northern hemisphere. They are annuals and herbaceous perennials, rarely climbers, whose flowers are arranged in loose panicles. The flowers are characterized by two sepals and four petals and a spur. This is a swollen tubular (or differently shaped) extension and often contains nectar, which attracts pollinators. In toadflaxes, the spur develops from the petal. In Slovenia, three genera occur, each with a few species.
