His works have made a strong impact on fine arts and he left behind numerous motifs of rural life, rituals and customs. Jože Debevec is most known for his translation of Dante's Divine Comedy, and General Rudolf Maister as a great fighter for Slovenia's northern border. Martin Krpan is a fictional character, depicted in a statue by sculptress Milena Braniselj and erected in front of the Kulturni dom Cultural Centre in Cerknica.

We have been left with some architectural evidence describing the life of former generations. In addition to mills and sawmills, we can also find hayracks, fruit-drying huts, wells and more. Even some of the houses and homesteads are preserved practically unchanged – some are still thatched.
